Djinn

Djinni are creatures of fire and smoke. They are usually in a humanoid form in to conserve power. But when they have access to magical flame, they can transform into a smoky creature with various physical body shapes and/or parts specific to that particular djinn. Their skin is also very colorful. A djinn could be pitch black, red, or purple in example.

Djinn do not handle cold well - if it is extreme, the djinn could die. Djinni tend to live in deserts as the sun is often hottest there.

Dragon Warriors

All dragon warriors are colored scale dragons - dragons whose scales gleam rather than blend in with their surroundings. There are nine colored scale families:

Red     White     Black     Gold     Silver     Blue     Green     Fire     Ice

It has been believed for a long time that only one dragon from each of these families can wield the power which would make them the most powerful (or potentially powerful for a hatchling) of their family. The power increases the dragon's potential in one area - creativity, endurability, strength, speed, intelligence, or etc.

The dragon warrior passes on their power to another member of their family when they die.

Dragons

Large (or small and magical) lizard or snake like creatures. Body shapes vary. Certain dragons can have feathers or skin instead of scales. In the mortal world, they tend to disguise themselves as humans and adopt temporary human names. Simple dragon terms (for humans) are:

Fae

There is no specific qualification for Fae as they come in various forms. They are strongly associated with the elements or civilization. There are two kingdoms that control all of Fae-dom: the Seelie Kingdom and the Unseelie Kingdom.

Time is different between the kingdoms and the mortal world. Depending on the regions within the kingdoms, time can either move quicker or slower. Royal Fae have the ability to set up domains that consist of their own time duration.

Outside of the association with light or darkness, Fae can also be associated with fire, domestic work, trees, rivers, and etc. They have the power of Glamour - an ability used to mesmerize humans. The strength and use of Glamour is dependent on the type of Fae as well as the individual Fae's capabilities.

Their magic is highly transformative which is why in old stories it is warned that humans should never eat or drink Fae food or wine. Otherwise, humans become Fae themselves and can never return to the world they once knew. It used to be that Fae would often kidnap humans. Since humans on Earth can no longer see most magic, kidnappings happen less frequently.

Foxes/Kitsunes

They are technically weres but due to their strong association with magic and trickery, they exist in their own group. Their forms often resemble their animal counterparts but they can have otherworldly characteristics such as leaf ears or lightning stripes.

From birth, foxes can switch between a human form and the fox form at will.

The  foxes live in their own created dimensions where they've established fox cities. Rogues are foxes who deliberately cut themselves off from fox society - they cannot rely on resources from fox cities.

Gods

Powerful spirits that can either look human, animal, or a combination of animal and/or human parts. They have dominions that they control to establish themselves as authorities. But their dominion also serves a purpose in "feeding" them to give them strength.  For example, a goddess of fertility becomes stronger when a child is conceived.

Gods and goddesses can travel between worlds and interact with humans. Part of these interactions results in children that are human with possible god-like abilities (not all children are able to access these abilities).

Hunters

This name is deliberately used to hide hunters of the supernatural in plain sight. Their goal is to rid the world of lycans once and for all. However, they also tend to target weres. Part of this is due to ignorance of the differences between the two creatures. Another reason is that certain hunters are bloodthirsty and target weres as a way to exercise their violence.

Hunter societies were established during the European Middle Ages but some groups have traces to early legendary heroes and demigods from around the world. They are strict, secretive, and have ties to many governments. This aids them in being able to hide their most extreme actions when killing lycan.

Most hunters are unable to see magical creatures as most of them are non-magical humans - they can see weres and lycan because the creatures' transformations are one of the few bits of magic that everyday humans can witness.

Lycan

A canine, bipedal creature that is often confused with weres. Unlike weres, lycans have the ability to turn a human into a creature like itself from a bite or a scratch. Also unlike weres, lycans don't have control over their shifting ability. The lycan's transformation is 100% dependent on the moon cycle. From the full moon to the new moon, the lycan is in their lycan form. From the new moon to the full moon, the creature is in human form.

No one knows where they came from. They are heavily hunted by hunters due to them being a biological threat to humanity. A single lycan can transform an entire town within a matter of hours.

Phoenix

A large, elemental bird-like creature. Some phoenix forms resemble herons, eagles, or hawks. Phoenix is a general term as there are many kinds of phoenix. The most well known are the firebirds. But other variations of phoenix can have the power over ice or earth, in example.

Pixie

A Fae-like creature that can create convincing illusions.

A pixie's power goes along with the idea of "moon madness." The full moon is when their illusions are at their most powerful but pixies can use any phase of the moon as a source of their magic (except for the new moon).

Pixies are often considered the weakest of the Fae. They tend to scatter when confronted as they are fun loving creatures that love to fly and party. The Pixie Queen changed this perception as she showed herself formidable as a leader and a warrior.

Spell Castors - Human or Nonhuman

Sphinx

Lion based creatures. Little is known about them other than that they are warriors. All female. They are capable of producing males called Sphinx sons but these sons are carriers for the Sphinx power. From what has been seen so far, a Sphinx's body is completely covered with fur. Human face. Ears, tail, paws, and claws like a lion. Sphinx are seen as benevolent in Ancient Egyptian culture and malicious in Ancient Greek culture.

Weres

Descendants of shape-shifting shamans or people who were gifted shape-shifting by shamans. They are both human and not. This is due to the were having a human body and an animal spirit that allows them to turn into a specific animal.

Most weres can only shape-shift. Some weres are more spiritually attuned which allows them to use magic.

Weres exist all over the world. Animal spirits are often attached to an entire were family so future generations will change into the specific animal of the spirit upon puberty (male were-jaguar and female were-jaguar produce a child attached to the jaguar spirit, in example). Were children will still have animal-like qualities such as night vision, a strong sense of smell, and etc. before puberty although these attributes will strengthen once they become one with the animal spirit.

However, there are occasions where an individual may be attached to a different animal spirit than the one that is their family guardian. This can cause conflict as weres are often tribal.
